JPMorgan’s Q3 profits soar 35%

October 13, 2023 (MLN): JPMorgan Chase reported another highly profitable quarter on Friday but warned that the inflation could persist amid the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, as APP reported.

The lender stated “this may be the most dangerous time the world has seen in decades.”

The biggest US bank in terms of assets, reported third-quarter profits of $13.2 billion, up 35% from the year-ago period, while revenues rose 22% to $39.9bn.

The biggest factor in the profit jump was the much increased earnings in net interest income (NII), which measures the gap between what the bank makes in interest on loans to clients compared with interest payments to customers.

JPMorgan again increased its full-year NII forecast, which essentially shows that the bank has been able to benefit from consumers who have kept money in accounts receiving lower interest than are available elsewhere in the market.

Bank executives have said in recent months that they expect this dynamic to “normalize,” reiterating that view on Friday.

“We don’t know exactly when, but we know it will” normalize, Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Barnum said on a conference call with reporters. “We’re going to respond to competition.”

A second factor behind the strong results has been the continually healthy state of consumer balance sheets, which has limited the number of defaults.

Throughout the Covid-19 period and in the immediate aftermath, consumers have largely successfully managed credit card payments, although delinquencies have risen in recent quarters.

In Friday’s press release, JPMorgan Chief Executive Jamie Dimon said “US consumers and businesses generally remain healthy, although, consumers are spending down their excess cash buffers.”

During the call, Barnum attributed the continued health of US consumers in part to the labor market, which he characterized as “fairly strong.”

The positive trends in NII, consumer credit, and higher profits from commercial banking helped JPMorgan offset some areas of weakness such as corporate and investment banking, where overall revenues dipped 2%.

JPMorgan said the results excluded the impact of its purchase of First Republic.

Dimon, who has warned for months of “storm clouds,” reiterated that the economy faces significant headwinds.

“Persistently tight labor markets as well as extremely high government debt levels with the largest peacetime fiscal deficits ever are increasing the risks that inflation remains elevated and that interest rates rise further from here,” said Dimon.

“The war in Ukraine compounded by last week’s attacks on Israel may have far-reaching impacts on energy and food markets, global trade, and geopolitical relationships.

This may be the most dangerous time the world has seen in decades,” Dimon said.”

This report includes valuable information about how agencies price their services, the services they offer, their biggest challenges, and more—based on survey results from over 300 agencies in North America.

Here are three of the biggest takeaways and how they’ll impact your 2024 planning.

The smaller agency does more with fewer employees

Of the agencies surveyed, 53% of those have fewer than 25 employees. Within these smaller agencies, this means employees are performing multiple job duties, including sales, reporting, account management, and more.

In fact, more than 50% of the agencies surveyed don’t have any employees dedicated to sales full-time and nearly 40% don’t have any employees fully dedicated to account management.

What this means: Agency employees are tasked with wearing multiple hats. This can limit productivity and prohibit your agency from effectively scaling and growing. Especially if employees are performing time-consuming tasks like creating budgets and proposals. 70% of agencies reported they’re doing this manually.

What to do about it: Think about ways you can outsource to give your employees more time to dedicate to the tasks and job duties that will make the biggest impact for your agency. This might include finding tools and resource that can streamline tasks that take a lot of time or partnering with other businesses to take on account management, reporting, and more.

Referrals are the biggest source for client acquisition

According to the report, 57% of agencies reported that client referrals were the main source for acquiring new clients. This was followed by content and digital marketing at only 14%.

At the beginning of 2023, experts were all but certain the US was either in a recession already or that one was imminent. And while the economy seemed to improve in some ways, it’s still been a volatile situation that has many business owners concerned.

What to do about it: There are steps you can take to recession-proof your agency such as finding ways to cut costs, stocking up on products at a discount, cutting unnecessary subscriptions and services, and more. It’s also more important than ever to retain clients—as this is more cost effective than acquiring new clients. California’s Dental Clinic Grant Program is accepting applications

Dentists, dental schools and other eligible providers and entities in California can apply for grants up to $5 million to expand or adapt specialty clinics or to construct new clinics that serve individuals with special health care needs. 

CDA led the successful push for the Specialty Dental Clinic Grant Program last year with the support of a coalition of providers, dental schools, disability rights organizations and consumer advocates, achieving a $50 million state budgetary investment in the newly created program.

The program aims to build a network of new or expanded specialty dental clinic facilities to increase access to oral health care for individuals with special health care needs. These patients have physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities that can require stabilization, deep sedation, special accommodations for mobility issues or other complex treatment that can only be provided in hospital or surgery center settings or need additional accommodations in traditional dental offices.

Grant program ‘a milestone’ for patients, providers and stakeholders

CDA President John Blake, DDS, called the launch of the grant program a milestone for patients who need special care and the dentists who provide that care, as well as for CDA and all stakeholders that have advocated for improved access to care.  

“This is a true milestone. Expanding and expediting dental services for patients with special health care needs was a top budget priority for CDA in 2022, and we are pleased to see the state open the grant this fall to eligible applicants,” said Dr. Blake. “We have been present since the kickoff meeting to design this grant program and have worked closely with the grant administrator to help ensure these grant funds ultimately reach the patients who need specialized care the most.”  

Eligible providers and entities can apply Oct. 3, 2023, through April 1, 2024, for the program’s first funding round. If grant funds remain after the first funding round, the program administrator will open subsequent funding rounds.

$50 million total investment a ‘historic win for dentistry and oral health care’

The $50 million, with separate $25 million allocations in years 2022 and 2023,  was a historic win for dentistry and oral health care access, CDA wrote last June after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the 2022-23 state budget. 

Limited access to dental care for patients with special needs is a decades-long crisis, even as the state has made strides to increase access in the Medi-Cal Dental Program, and few settings can provide dental care for patients with special needs. Most, including dental schools, are backlogged with exceptionally long wait times exacerbated by the pandemic. Many patients and their families travel hours to clinics to receive routine dental care, and some wait for years to receive that care.

Grants up to $5 million to construct or expand specialty dental clinics

Funds from the Specialty Dental Clinic Grant Program, which is being administered by California Health Facilities Financing Authority, can be used to expand or adapt specialty clinics at university dental schools or to construct new clinics that serve individuals with special health care needs. 

Applicants can apply for a grant of up to $5 million and may use the funds on eligible costs, including: 

  • Construction of real property such as costs related to project planning and management, appraisals, inspections and preconstruction costs such as surveying and permit fees.
  • Expansion, including the purchase of real property or one or more mobile dental units.
  • Modification of real property, such as renovation or remodeling.
  • Adaptation, such as the purchase of equipment or furnishings.
  • Completed projects must be sustainable for at least 10 years after completion

Ultimately, new and expanded clinics should increase timely access to oral health care in California communities while reducing geographic shortages, encouraging prevention services and early intervention and providing education opportunities for providers and students.

The grant recipients will have ongoing compliance requirements. Critically, (1) the funded construction or expansion must be sustainable for at least 10 years after the project’s completion, (2) grant recipients must commit to serving a patient load made up of at least 50% patients with special health care needs for 10 years upon project completion, and (3) applicants must be Medi-Cal Dental-enrolled providers (pertains only to facilities financed with the grant funds).

Interested applicants should read the program guidelines for definitions and details on eligibility, grant distribution, evaluation criteria, reporting requirements and more. A good business credit score can be a game changer for your small business. With good business credit, you can more easily secure financing, get better terms from your vendors, attract better investors, lower your insurance rates, and even increase the value of your business.

So what is business credit? And how do you build it?

Let’s take a look at how business credit works, how it can help you grow your small business, and how you can build it.

What Is Business Credit?

A business credit score is a reflection of your business’s creditworthiness. Basically, it tells lenders how likely you are to pay back any money that you borrow. Just like a personal credit score, a higher score can bring a number of borrowing benefits — from lower interest rates to higher likelihood of approval.

Any small business can build business credit (with the exception of sole proprietorships). You just need your employer identification number (you can obtain yours for free with the IRS assistance tool), a business bank account and some good business borrowing habits.

How Does Business Credit Work?

When you take out a business loan, establish trade lines or open a business credit card with a lender or vendor that reports to the credit bureaus, your payment history and other information will likely be reported back to one of these bureaus.

Your business credit score is calculated from the information in your business credit reports. This can include your repayment and credit history, your debt usage, the amount of debt you’re carrying and the age of your business.

You’ll notice that your business credit score doesn’t look the same as your personal score. This is because personal business scores range from 300 to 850, while business credit scores range from 0 to 100. Most lenders consider 80 or above to be a good business credit score.

The business credit bureaus may also use different measurements and names for your business credit score. While exploring you may see references to DUNS numbers or PAYDEX scores. DUNS numbers are used by Dun & Bradstreet to help identify your business in their system (your lenders and partners will be able to see and verify your business this way as well). A PAYDEX score is another name for your business credit score.

What Are the Business Credit Bureaus?

There are three major business credit bureaus that collect the information used on your business credit report.

  • Dun & Bradstreet
  • Experian Business
  • Equifax Business

A big part of your small business credit report will be made up of the information that is reported to the bureaus, but the bureaus can also pull information from public records, your corporate financial reports, press releases or news stories and of course self-reported information. When you review your report you’ll see all this information plus your business’ information. This can include names, addresses, phone numbers, your business structure (i.e. limited liability company), etc.

What Is a Business Credit Score Used For?

Your business credit score is used for many purposes —  and some of them may surprise you.

Business financing. Many lenders use your business credit profile to help them make decisions about borrowers. This may apply to business credit cards, small business loans or a business line of credit. Some lenders may also use your personal credit score if you don’t have established business credit.

Vendor or supplier contracts. Vendors use business credit scores to determine if your business would be a good customer. A good score shows that you’re more likely to pay invoices on time.

Insurance rates. Your business credit score can influence the rates and terms of your insurance.

Partnerships and investors. Your credit score is one of many indicators of your business’s financial health. Most potential partners and investors are more inclined to work with a business that has healthy finances.

At the next plot, the Flower of Veneration Chapter 1 Cecylia gazed at her father’s calm face and understood right once that he had not died naturally. Subsequently, she believed it was a curse after speaking with the doctor. But Cecylia ‘s emotional dam burst, and she yelled at him not to disclose the required and apparent information, her voice laced with rage. 

Cecylia immediately regained her senses and recognized the weird vibe in the room. Everyone avoided her gaze with terrified emotions on their faces. Nearly as if they were certain Cecylia was responsible for her father’s murder. 

Cecylia determined to ignore her unimportant thoughts and concentrate on the task at hand. She suppressed his feelings once more and directed Gianton (their butler) to plan a midnight funeral. With that, she pledged that he would track out whoever cursed his father and killed him.

Plot III – Two Loyal Knights

In the third plot of The Flower of Veneration Chapter 1, Chris and Sophie, two of Cecylia ‘s devoted Knights appear. The two knights had an intriguing relationship with Cecylia, which initially intrigued me to this moment. Besides, Chris may be seen interrogating her and cracking jokes about her father’s death. 

On the other hand, Sophie refers to Cecylia as Liz honorifically, which means ‘higher’. Both knights are shown in a friendly spat as Cecylia smiles a little, reminiscing the good old days and how neither has changed much. 

In the next segment of The Flower Of Veneration Chapter 1, Cecylia dialogues with her knights on how they are terrorized by fear and suspicion of everybody inside the palace.

Not only that but women’s blood is thought to be inferior to men’s. As a result, it addresses Cecylia ‘s concern that her father’s death would be viewed as a chance to take over the family. Cecylia knew in her soul that this cat-and-dog game would never stop. 

His family will never abandon him. As a result, she recommended that his father remarry to create a suitable successor for the family. On the other hand, her father convinced him that he was his sole heir and that he should take all he had. 

To be honest, this is my favorite scene in The Flower of Veneration chapter 1. This recollection strengthens Cecylia ‘s resolve, and she asserts in front of everyone that she is the sole true successor to the family and that she will be the future Duke.
