best-performing diwali stocks: Samvat 2079 recap: 50% of the top 10 recommended stocks deliver double-digit returns
With Samvat 2079 drawing to a close, a glimpse into the journey of Dalal Street investors shows a year marked by major ups and downs, but India stood strong against the global mayhem and managed to give a Diwali dhamaka!

The journey since last Diwali began with benchmark indices hitting lifetime highs in December 2022, then plunging to 52-week lows in March and scaling back to record highs in September.

Even after such a tumultuous ride, the benchmark Nifty50 gave nearly 10% returns to investors in Samvat 2079, while at least 238 NSE-listed stocks turned multibaggers.

A look at the performance of the top 10 stocks that were recommended by market experts for Samvat 2079 shows that 50% of them have managed to give double-digit returns to investors.

The top 10 recommended stocks of last Diwali were Lemon Tree Hotels, Coforge, Bharat Electronics, HCLTech, Axis Bank, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Marico, Infosys, and Jubilant Ingrevia.

Of these, Axis Bank, HCLTech, Bharat Electronics, Coforge, and Lemon Tree Hotels have given returns of over 13-38% since the last Diwali.

Bharat Electronics, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, and Lemon Tree Hotels also scaled lifetime highs during this period.
Axis Bank
Shares of the private sector lender have given over 13% returns since the last Diwali and scaled a record high on September 20. Foreign investors have steadily increased their holding in the stock over the last 3-4 quarters.

Nomura Financial continues to find the bank’s valuations attractive at 1.8 times 1-year forward book value, given that RoE is expected to be 18% over FY24-26. It has a “buy” rating on the stock with a price target of Rs 1,150, implying an upside potential of about 13% from the current levels.

HCL Tech
While the IT sector is having a rough time because of the economic slowdown in the US and Europe and the environment continues to look a bit uncertain, some stocks in this space have still managed to reward investors well and HCLTech is one among them.

The stock has gained over 23% since last Diwali and is the only one among the largecaps to give double-digit returns.

Even though the company slashed its FY24 growth guidance citing tough business environment, the stock remains a “buy” for many analysts.

“We see a strong FY24 exit positioning HCLTech well for a solid performance in FY25,” said Kumar Rakesh of BNP Paribas, who has a target price of Rs 1,410 for the stock.

Coforge
This is another IT stock that has given impressive returns of nearly 32% since last Diwali. The stock found favour among both mutual funds and foreign investors, who have steadily increased their holding in the last 3 quarters. As of September end, MFs held over 42% stake in the company, compared to about 20% in December last year, while that of FIIs went up to 34.4% from 21.3%.

Jefferies India remains bullish on the prospects of Coforge and retains a “buy” rating on the stock with a price target of Rs 6,250.

“With promoter stake sale overhang behind us and growth momentum remaining strong, Coforge’s premium multiples are likely to sustain,” the brokerage said.

Lemon Tree Hotels
Thanks to the strong recovery in leisure and business travel post the pandemic, the hotels and hospitality sector saw tremendous growth in business, and the same also reflected in the share price. Shares of Lemon Tree Hotels, which was among the top stocks recommended by analysts last Diwali, have given returns of more than 38%.

Given the positive outlook for the industry for the rest of FY24 due to big events such as the Cricket World Cup and the ongoing festival season, the stock looks poised to add more gains into investors’ kitty.

Samvat 2080 Bets
According to Reliance Securities, the 3E’s – Economy, Elections, Earnings and geopolitical crisis outcomes over the next few quarters, are what will drive the returns for the next Samvat year.

However, every decline in the market presents a good buying opportunity given the strong earnings outlook.

For the next Samvat, stocks that have made it to the recommendation list of most brokerages are Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Aeronautics, State Bank of India, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

‘What’s wrong with it?’: Congress’ Manish Tewari says 70-hr work week, 15 vacations a year must become norm

Congress MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Manish Tewari, said that he does not understand the brouhaha around the 70-hour work week. “What is wrong with it,”  he asked on social media, tagging Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. Murthy had said last month that India’s youth should work 70 hours a week for the nation to catch up with economies that saw exponential growth in the past few decades.

Tewari said that public representatives work 12-15 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are no Sundays off, he said, adding that he does not remember the last time he took Sunday off.

“If India has to truly become a great power one or even two generations have to make 70 hours a week their work ethic,” said Tewari adding that 70 hours a week and 15 vacations should become a norm.

Tewari is one of the many personalities to have supported Narayana Murthy’s pitch for 70-hour work weeks. Recently L&T Chairman Emeritus AM Naik said that he worked 15 hours a day and slept in the office too when he was building the engineering giant in the span of five decades. He said after such long hours, he would go home and think some more about the company.

Actor and businessman Suniel Shetty also said that it is important to move out of one’s comfort zone. JSW Steel MD Sajjan Jindal too emphasised on the importance of long working hours, stating that a 5-day week is not what a developing country like India needs. “”It’s not our moment to work less and entertain ourselves,” said Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, who was one of the first voices in support of Murthy’s 70-hour work week pitch.

However, India is already one of the world’s most hardworking countries, with an average of 47.7 hours per week per employed person, according to International Labour Organisation. Compared to the 10 biggest economies, Indians have the longest average work week.

Only Qatar, Congo, Lesotho, Bhutan, Gambia, and the United Arab Emirates average more than India.

India, on the other hand, has the lowest per capita GDP among the top 10 biggest countries. In comparison, France that has the shortest work week has the highest per capita GDP (30.1 hour/ $55,493) among the 10 biggest economies.

Diageo warns on profit as LatAm, Caribbean demand falters, shares slide

(Reuters) -Johnnie Walker whisky maker Diageo said on Friday it expected organic operating profit growth to decline in the first half of its current financial year due to “materially weaker” performance in Latin America and Caribbean.

Shares in the world’s largest spirits company fell 8.5% to 2,970 pence in early trading, making it the top loser on London’s blue-chip index.

“Macroeconomic pressures in the region are resulting in lower consumption and consumer downtrading,” the world’s biggest spirits company said in a statement.

“These impacts are slowing down progress in reducing channel inventory to appropriate levels for the current environment.”

Sales in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) market, which generates nearly 11% of total sales, are now expected to decline by more than 20% in the six months ended December, the company added.

Meanwhile in Europe, growth continues to be strong despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, albeit the pace is slower than the second half of the previous financial year, Diageo said.

For the year ended June 30, the maker of Tanqueray gin and Don Julio tequila narrowly beat earnings estimates as sales of its more expensive liquor brands offset lower volumes.

13 Low-Cost Strategies to Promote your small Business

0
13 Low-Cost Strategies to Promote your small Business

The best ways to promote your business will depend on the products or services you offer, your target audience, marketing budget and more. Here are the best low-cost Strategies.

Low $$$ Strategies: 1) Email, 2 ) Social Media, 3) SEO, 5) Target your Audience, 6) Urgency, 7) Partnerships, 8) Free Ads, 9) Local & Online Press, 10) Review Sites, 11) current Customers, 12) Sponsor Local Events, 13) Expert.

One of the main goals of small-business marketing is getting the word out about your business. By increasing brand awareness, you can build your customer base and ultimately increase sales. Learning how to promote your business can help you do just that.

The best ways to promote your business will depend on what kind of business you own, the products or services you offer, your target audience, marketing budget and additional factors. The good news is there are plenty of free and low-cost ways to promote your business, so you can test out several relatively risk-free to find what works best. Here are some of the top options.

1. Targeted Email campaigns

Emailing marketing is a great way to stay in touch with your customer base, send reminders, promote sales, offer coupons and other savings. You can collect your customers’ Email addresses through sign-up sheets at your brick-and-mortar location or through opt-in forms on your business Website. Offering an incentive for providing their Email, like a discount off their next purchase, can help you grow your list quickly.

To help automate your Email campaigns and ensure your communications look professional, consider email marketing software. Services like Mailchimp and Constant Contact offer Email templates, customizable landing pages and analytics tools to measure the success of your campaigns.

2. Curated Social Media

Alongside a business website, social media platforms are usually the first place prospective customers go to find out about your business. Accounts on the main platforms, like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok, are generally free.

Promoting your business on social media lets people know what kind of products or services you provide, as well as offers a snapshot into your company culture. Thoughtfully curated social media profiles — think well-lit shots of your products, fun and informative Instagram stories and active Facebook conversations — are an easy way to elevate your business.

3. Strong SEO Strategy

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and a solid SEO strategy helps your business website and profiles appear in the top online search results when potential customers query a term related to your business. The more people who see and click on your business website, the greater visibility your brand will have – and, hopefully – the greater your sales.

The foundation of SEO strategy revolves around finding and using the keywords that your audience is searching for, and using them effectively on your site so your page surfaces in top results. Being strategic and specific with your keywords is important so that you stand out from the rest of the internet.

If you do want professional help, there are marketing tools that can help you optimize your site and measure its performance. These typically come at a cost, but it may be worth the increased traffic and visibility.

4. Promotions to your Target Audience

Incentives, like giveaways, discounts or contests, are a great way to get the word out about your business while also encouraging people to make a purchase. When planning an incentive campaign, it’s important to know what you want to get out of it. Have a goal in mind so that you have something to measure your success against.

Also try to target a specific customer group; not all of your customers are the same, so trying to market to all of them the same way won’t be the most effective. By using different approaches for different types of buyers, you’re more likely to be successful.

5. Sales that create a Sense of Urgency

Another way to promote your business and drive purchases is by offering flash sales. Because they’re for such a limited time, flash sales create a sense of urgency and encourage customers to complete a purchase right away, before the sale ends. You can promote these sales across your social media channels and via email. Flash sales may apply to a specific product, which can also be a great way to move inventory that’s been hanging around.

6. Events that resonate                                             with your Community

Hosting events is a great way to get involved in your community, engage with your customers face-to-face and get creative with the way you promote your business. In order to drive foot traffic, consider your customer base and their needs. If, for instance, you know that the majority of your customers work 9-to-5 jobs, don’t plan an event in the middle of the work day. You’ll have a lower turnout, and you’ll have spent all that time and money for little payoff. And if you run a family-friendly business, plan an event on a weekend so your customers can bring their kids.

7. Strategic Partnerships                                               with other Businesses

If you know of a business in your area that complements yours but isn’t a direct competitor, team up with them for joint promotions. Do you share a common customer base and benefit from each other’s traffic.

Keep each other’s business cards at your tills, link to each other’s websites, highlight each other’s products or services via social media or combine your resources to throw an event. These partnerships can help you reach a customer base that you don’t already attract, but know will be interested in your products or services — not to mention – make some allies in your local business community.

8. Use FREE Advertising

From leveraging social media to keeping your online business profiles updated to getting involved in your community – there are plenty of free advertising strategies to take advantage of. Keeping an eye out for opportunities and getting creative can help you promote your business with little to no monetary investment.

9. Get local & online Press

Press is a great way to promote your business within your industry and with potential customers. Have you recently expanded your product line? Opened a new location? Sponsored a local charitable event? Send out a Press Release to see if your local newspaper or magazine might cover it.

The hard part of this business promotion strategy is that you actually have to offer some newsworthy content to get in local press pieces. To avoid over-promotion, save the good stuff to send over infrequently so your updates seem more newsworthy.

10. Manage Review Sites

Potential customers love real-person referrals when they’re looking for a new business, product or service. Referrals can come from in-person word-of-mouth or online review sites. Making sure that your business is on those review sites and has favorable ratings is a great step toward promoting your business.

Ensure your business has profiles on Google, Yelp & Yellow pages – with current business information, such as your contact information and hours of operation. Then be sure to respond to customer reviews — both positive and negative. This will show your customers that you care about customer service, which many people appreciate.

11. Tap into your existing Cust Base

While you may be eager to promote your business to new customers, don’t lose sight of your existing customer base. After all, those who have already transacted with your business — and had a positive (+) experience — are likely to do so again.

Show your existing customers that you care by starting a Rewards program or a Customer Appreciation promotion to get them to complete another purchase. Plus, positive word-of-mouth and referrals is a great way to promote your business, so keeping your customers happy might encourage them to tell their family and friends about how great your business is.

12. Sponsor Local Events

Many organizations welcome sponsors to their events for a small buy-in price. In return, you might get your name on all the promotional information, a booth or the ability to give away branded items at the event. This is a great way to get your name out there and promote your business.

Keep an eye out for opportunities to sponsor or donate to charitable events. This allows you to align your brand with organizations you and your community believe are important, and get your brand out there at the same time.

13. Become a trusted Expert                           on online platforms

Figure out where your customers like to ask questions and solve problems — whether that’s a Facebook group, Reddit, Quora or an industry-specific online forum. A great way to subtly promote your business is to answer questions or facilitate discussions on those platforms.

The key to this promotion strategy is to build trust. Don’t spam online communities with heavy-handed business promotions. Provide value, and these users will begin to know who you are and recognize your business. When they could use you as a solution, they’ll remember to come to your business.

Dental clinic opens for uninsured, low-income Central Albertans

Dental clinic opens for uninsured, low-income Central Albertans

Low-income Central Albertans who have been relying on Red Deer hospital’s emergency department for help with dental pain and infections can now access a new public health dental clinic in the city.

Alberta Health Services (AHS), GreenShield and Red Deer Street Connect partnered to open the AHS Public Health Dental Clinic which has provided over 300 appointments since it opened in June.

The clinic is for Alberta residents without dental insurance of any kind, people with income under low-income cutoff limits, and/or with a direct referral from the hospital emergency department for a specific dental emergency.

AHS says people without dental insurance, or who are low income, can often be more vulnerable to poor oral health outcomes. This can often lead to individuals visiting hospital emergency departments instead of dental clinics for their oral health issues and emergencies.

Dr. Heidi Rabie, division chief of public health dental clinics with AHS, said in Canada about one per cent of emergency department visits are for dental pain.

She said the new Red Deer clinic, located at South Gaetz Medical Centre near Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, can reduce those visits, as well as serve people with addictions and mental health.

“Instead of patients having to go to the emergency departments because they don’t have the finances to head towards a dental clinic, they’re able to come see us over here so we can take a load off the emergency department,” Rabie said.

The clinic, supported by a $1.5-million grant from the not-for-profit health and benefits company GreenShield, is staffed by dentists and registered dental assistants with two fully equipped dental treatment rooms to serve the area’s high demand for dental needs.

Clients will be referred to the clinic through services like Street Connect, the Primary Care Network Street Clinic, Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and other services, such as the opioid dependency program. The clinic will provide basic care to patients, responding to common dental concerns such as cavities, toothaches and the need for extractions.

Two similar clinics have been operating in Calgary that have a total of 12 dental chairs. The Red Deer clinic has been open two days a week, but is expanding to three days, and a fourth day will be added later this year to address the waitlist for dental care.

Rabie said it took almost two years for planning and construction of the Red Deer clinic due to the pandemic. On Monday during an official ceremony at the clinic, she spoke about one of her patients, a woman in her late 40s who was healthy today, but lost most of her teeth in her youth because of addiction. The woman has worked and saved enough money for dentures, but couldn’t afford to remove some decayed teeth.

“She would talk with her hand over her mouth. It became habitual. She was embarrassed. It was heartbreaking to see,” said Rabie who handed her patient a mirror to look at her new dentures.

“She saw herself and the tears began to flow,” said the dentist who admitted to a few tears of her own.

“The importance of oral health and its impact on our overall health and wellbeing can be easy to overlook. However the connection is undeniable,” Rabie said.

Health Minister Adriana LaGrange said the clinic will help provide preventative dental care to those who are vulnerable so they won’t end up at the emergency department with complex medical issues.

“This makes sense. Let’s help people get what they need as early as possible so they don’t end up in hospital. And if they’re in hospital, is there a better place for them to be that can look after their care need,” LaGrange said

“We are very fortunate here in Alberta, as a province, we do provide dental health care to a vast majority of individuals with low income, etc. But there was a gap and this is filling a gap that needs to be addressed.”

The AHS Public Health Dental Clinic is co-located with other services that support low-income individuals in Red Deer, such as AHS Street Connect and the Red Deer PCN Street Clinic, which rounds out the suite of services offered at that location.

UPDATE 1-Nvidia plans to release three new chips for China

UPDATE 1-Nvidia plans to release three new chips for China

(Writes through with background and details)

SHANGHAI, Nov 9 (Reuters) – Nvidia is planning to release three new chips for China, local media reported on Thursday, weeks after the U.S. blocked it from selling two high-end artificial intelligence (AI) chips and one of its top gaming chips to Chinese firms.

The STAR Market Daily news outlet, citing people familiar with the matter, said that the chips are called the HGX H20, L20 PCIe and L2 PCIe and that Nvidia could announce them on Nov. 16 at the earliest.

Nvidia declined to comment when asked about the report.

Last month, the U.S. AI chip giant said new export restrictions announced by Washington would block it from selling two of its modified advanced AI chips – the A800 and H800 – both of which were created for the Chinese market last year to comply with previous export rules.

One of the company’s top-of-the-line gaming chips, the L40S chip, which it announced in August, would also be affected, it said.

On Oct. 24, Nvidia said those curbs would take immediate effect, as U.S. regulators had sped up an original deadline.

Nvidia has commanded more than 90% share of China’s $7 billion AI chip market, and analysts have said the U.S. curbs are likely to create opportunities for domestic firms such as Huawei Technologies to make inroads.

Chinese internet giant Baidu placed a sizeable order for Huawei AI chips this year, sources have said. One said Baidu had done so before the U.S. curbs were announced as it was preparing for a future when it would no longer be able to purchase from Nvidia.

Boeing’s Vision: Mixed Reality Aircraft Maintenance

0
Boeing’s Vision: Mixed Reality Aircraft Maintenance

In an era of rapid technological advancements, the aviation industry is not exempt from embracing cutting-edge innovations. Boeing, a prominent aerospace company, is at the forefront of envisioning a future where aircraft maintenance is revolutionized by the integration of 5G-enabled drone inspectors and augmented reality (AR) training. Boeing has a ambitious approach to modernize aircraft maintenance through these groundbreaking technologies.

5G Drone Inspectors: The Next Frontier

Boeing’s perspective on aircraft maintenance goes beyond traditional methods. The company foresees the implementation of 5G-connected drone inspectors as a pivotal development in the field. These drones, equipped with advanced sensors and real-time communication capabilities through 5G networks, have the potential to transform the way aircraft inspections are carried out. With the ability to swiftly navigate aircraft surfaces and collect comprehensive data, 5G drone inspectors promise to enhance maintenance efficiency and accuracy.

Augmented Reality Training: Bridging the Skills Gap

One of the challenges faced by the aviation industry is the need for skilled maintenance personnel. Boeing recognizes this challenge and looks to AR training as a solution. Augmented reality technology allows for immersive and interactive training experiences that can simulate complex maintenance tasks. By providing hands-on training in a virtual environment, AR equips technicians with the skills they need while reducing the need for physical aircraft access. This innovation not only accelerates learning but also contributes to more effective and confident maintenance teams.

Fostering Synergy Between 5G and AR

Boeing’s vision doesn’t stop at individual technologies.
